Review: Magic Mourns by Ilona Andrews (Kate Daniels World)

Andrea Nash of the Order of Knights of Merciful Aid - with an assist from her friend, Kate Daniels - tries to figure out why the giant three-headed dog who guards the gates of Hades is sniffing around Atlanta.

Novella.

First Person.

No, but definitely better if you've read the other books in the series.

A happy for now / happy beginning.

Yes.

What I Liked:

Smoking hot chemistry, good banter and an interesting story which was a twist on Greek Mythology... Raphael and Andrea are really fun and likeable characters and together they are awesome and I want more of them!

I liked how this book, though featuring Kate, wasn't about Kate. Andrea is kick ass and deserves her moment to shine... But the little teaser at the end where Kate mentions making an apple pie for someone (aka the naked dinner!) resulted in a squealing fangirl moment.

What I Didn't Like:

Nothing really... Well maybe Andrea's judgemental attitude towards Raphael - and Boudas in general - was a bit irksome but considering her history you can't really blame her.

Other Thoughts:

I think this novella would work well enough as a standalone but be warned that after reading it you'll probably want to read more about our lovely Boudas and to jump to their full length novel you'll want to have read Magic Bleeds - book 4 in the Kate Daniels series - and to read that you'll need to have read the others in the series... So basically to continue on I'd recommend you've read the Kate Daniels series otherwise you're going to miss out on a whole load of awesome!

“Kate had never met a person she didn't want to protect, preferably by hacking at the hostile parties with her sword.”

“Do you ever think of anything but sex?”
“Yes, I do. Sometimes I think of waking up next to you. Or making you laugh.”

    1. Definitely! And as much as I'm loving Curran, Raphael just has that special something. 😉
