Blog Tour & Review: Unleashed by J.L. Drake

I was so happy to get a place on the blog tour for Unleashed! I loved the first two books in the series and I couldn't resist jumping on for the finale.
Below, I share my thoughts on the book as well as a little bit about the author and the author's release giveaway!

Trigger

Tess was under the Devil’s watch while I suffered behind bars with my demons…

The ace in my pocket brings power, and the temptation to flip overwhelms me.

I’m playing chicken with the reaper, and it’s only feeding his thirst.

The smell of blood is a drug. It fuels me. Consumes me.

I am lost.

Tess

The Devil stole me, but I refuse to belong to someone else.

I’m a fighter.

I will do whatever it takes to get back to my family.

Treachery and betrayal surround us.

The only way out is to turn the greatest loss into the greatest victory.

ebook

Full length novel

First person, alternating.

Yes, I wouldn't read this without having read the other two books of the trilogy.

No.

Yes.

Yes, lots.

Unleashed is the final book in the Devil's Reach trilogy and after the awesome ride of the first two books I was expecting a lot.
Maybe too much.
Unleashed was a really enjoyable read but it didn't leave me as giddy or excited as I expected it to and I can't quite put my finger on why...
It could have been any number of irksome side-lines which detracted from the Trigger and Tess action. Lets see, there was the annoying 'club-whore' antics which got old real quick, there was an ex-clubwhore side plot that twisted up my insides and not in a good way, then there was the weird familial revelations that just screamed, wt-actual-f. Oh, and let's not forget Trigger letting someone else mete out punishment against the big bad in the end rather than doing it himself. (Bit of a huge personality shift there!)

That said, I loved the action, I loved the dynamic between Tess and Trigger. I loved how Tess grew into the position of Trigger's old-lady and became a badass to match him. I loved how Trigger reached a point where he could reconcile Nolan with Trigger and give Tess the love she deserves. I loved the sense of brotherhood between the guys and I even loved how deliciously twisted everything was. All the plot lines were resolved and everything was resolved in a way that was ultimately satisfying.
I really enjoyed it. I just wanted... More.

Devil's Reach is an MC romance series that is suspenseful and takes you on one hell of a rollercoaster. I am gutted that it's over but it'll be a series I re-read when I'm in the mood for a dark and gritty ride. I'll miss these characters and I'm ever hopeful that we'll get more books in the world... After all, Devil's Reach is a large MC!

Looks like Trigger but I could honestly do without the big bushy beard. 😐

Bestselling author J. L. Drake was born and raised in Nova Scotia, Canada, later moving to Southern California where she lives with her husband and two children. When she's not writing, she loves to spend time with her family, travelling or just enjoying a night at home. One thing you might notice in her books is her love for the four seasons. Growing up on the east coast of Canada the change in the seasons is in her blood and is often mentioned in her writing. An avid reader of James Patterson, J.L. Drake has often found herself inspired by his many stories of mystery and intrigue. She hopes you will enjoy her stories as much as she has enjoyed writing them.

  1. This sounds really good. I've read other reviews for this one and most people are liking it.

    1. It was good. It's a great trilogy. It just could have been that little bit... More. You know? It was a good book but it wasn't the epic conclusion I hoped for.

  2. I've read very few MC romances but am always open to a good one. This sounds like one worth checking out (the first book, I mean). Even if this one didn't totally live up to the others, it still sounds like a really solid series.

    1. This is one of the rougher, darker, MC romances but I really liked it. There was just something about Trigger and Tess that appealed to me. :)
