Blog Tour & Review: Royally Bitten by Lexi C Foss

Lexi C Foss has a sexy paranormal romance for you all and I was lucky enough to snag an ARC of it!
So, behold!
My thoughts on the book, teasers, excerpt and giveaway!

Once upon a time, humankind ruled the world while lycans and vampires lived in secret.
This is no longer that time.

Rae

Blood Day--the culmination of my training. The day I find out my fate.
I will not cry. I will not beg. I will remain calm.
Emotions are for the weak, and I am not weak.
My name is Rae and I will survive this.
But I never expected him to call my name...

Kylan

Someone wants to frame me for immortal insanity? Be my guest, darling.
I'll just pick a fighter as my bait, a consort with a hint of defiance.
And when the culprit attempts to bite, I'll be the one who bites back.
Because no one touches what's mine, including the fiery redhead at my side.

Welcome to Kylan City.
I dare you all to come out and play.

Hah! The whole bloody world of this book is a trigger... Humans are slaves. Cattle. To be used, drained and discarded as vampires see fit.
I think some people may have issues with that.

No, the world is summarised but I'm incredibly glad I decided to read book one - Chastely Bitten - first because reading it did give the world more depth, made me more invested in the characters, the appearances of characters from the first book, and the overarching series plot.

No, the book is a self-contained episode in a wider story.

Yes.

No... There is sharing. Sexual encounters featuring Kylan, Rae and another but there's no infidelity.
Sexual mores in this world are alot more liberated than in our own.

No.

Yes.

I summarised the world of the Blood Alliance in my review for book one, Chastely Bitten, and I honestly don't think I can describe it better than I did there so I'm going to repeat myself...

The Blood Alliance is an alliance between Vampires and Lycans.
In this world, they rose up, overthrew human rule, slaughtered the majority of the world's population and enslaved those that remained.
The surviving humans were bred and trained for various purposes but they are property, animals, to be handled and treated however the 'superior races' wish. Human history was re-written. Humans no longer remember they were once the dominant species, that they used to live free and have choices and therefore accept their fates like sheep.
It's grim.

Royally Bitten begins where the epilogue of book one takes place - Blood Day. A day when a humans's function within the world is determined... Aged 22.
They will be sent to blood farms, used as guards to keep other humans in line, harem members for the royals, sport for the Lycans (think deer), breeders to ensure the supply of humans.
Pretty horrific, right?
A select few get the opportunity to kill each other - hunger games style - for a chance at becoming an immortal.

That's what Rae is hoping for... To fight for immortality.
However, her plans are ripped away from her when she's chosen from the mix by Kylan to become his one and only harem member after he's believed to have slaughtered the entirety of his harem in the previous book.

Oh my, how the sparks flew from the first introduction!
Kylan is nothing like anyone expects him to be and Rae? Well, I don't think she has a subservient bone in her entire body.
The dynamic between them was fun and explosive.
There's fight, there's fun, there's wonder and there's heartbreak.
Where I liked the couple from the previous book, I absolutely LOVED Kylan and Rae.
Neither one of them expected the other. Neither one of them knew what the hell hit them.
Kylan is trying to work out who is trying to frame him and take over his territory.
Rae is just trying to survive.
They became exactly what the other needed and never knew they wanted.

The dynamics with Kylan already having a blood virgin (a human with a rare and addicting blood type whose purpose is to fulfill the needs of the master, both blood and sex) was super interesting. Kylan prefers females but loves his blood virgin - Mikhail. It's not romantic but it's not exactly platonic either. With a harem, the dynamic would be fine but with just one consort aka Rae?
Well, it's interesting... And hot.
I won't talk about how it plays out - as that'd be a spoiler - but it didn't go the way I thought it would.
In fact, the entire ending didn't go as I thought it would and I loved it!
(It was much better, fyi.)

The book took me through a wide range of emotions, not all of them fun, but I seriously loved it. I couldn't stop reading it once I started. I wanted more.
It was great to see characters from book one appearing in this one and it was awesome seeing how Kylan is going to link into the overarching story of rebellion. I assume from the blurb of the next book we'll probably see Kylan and Rae make an appearance but I want more than just an appearance!
😭

Anyway, I'm hooked.
Next book please!

I love this cover!!
It caputres Kylan and Rae beautifully and is the reason I requested to be on the blog tour for the book if I'm honest! The interesting blurb was secondary, lol.

  1. I didn't think I wanted to read this one until I read your review! You made me want to experience this world and get to know these characters. It all sounds fascinating, albeit very dark and disturbing. Humans are always cattle when vampires are involved, hah. So where do the lycans come in? Are the enemies of the vampires, or are they under their control?

    1. The Lycans are neither under control or enemies... The two species seem to keep to themselves with the exception of Blood Days (aka dishing up the new crop of humans). The Lycans were background in the first two books but book three moves onto a Lycan pack with interesting ties to the characters in Royally Bitten. I'm looking forward to it.
