Zombie Apocalypses, Haunted Houses and Queens of Nothing

I love participating in weekly bookish memes, answering questions and making lists, but sometimes the answers are not enough to make a decent post... On their own! And sometimes, I just don't have space to do all I want to do!
So, on those weeks, I'll be combining rather than skipping!

Zombie Apocalypse: What would you do?

I'd probably get eaten after tripping over my own feet while trying to run away.

I'd like to think I'd bravely fight off zombie attacks while managing to keep myself - and my family - fed, sheltered and healthy like an absolute boss but I'm uncoordinated and generally hopeless, lol.
My husband would probably do okay though... Maybe I should just stick close to him and make myself useful where I can.
That said, I'd be a pretty good medic, I think!
Although, that wouldn't be much use if someone was bitten would it? Don't those bitten turn into zombies too? Or am I mixing up my monsters?

I've yet to read book one and book two but I've waiting for book three so I don't have pesky cliffhangers and years of impatient annoyance.
(That's my story and I'm sticking to it! It has 100% not got anything to do with procrastination.)

The Queen of Nothing

He will be destruction of the crown and the ruination of the throne.

Power is much easier to acquire than it is to hold onto. Jude learned this lesson when she released her control over the wicked king, Cardan, in exchange for immeasurable power.

Now as the exiled mortal Queen of Faerie, Jude is powerless and left reeling from Cardan’s betrayal. She bides her time determined to reclaim everything he took from her. Opportunity arrives in the form of her deceptive twin sister, Taryn, whose mortal life is in peril.

Jude must risk venturing back into the treacherous Faerie Court, and confront her lingering feelings for Cardan, if she wishes to save her sister. But Elfhame is not as she left it. War is brewing. As Jude slips deep within enemy lines she becomes ensnared in the conflict’s bloody politics.

And, when a dormant yet powerful curse is unleashed, panic spreads throughout the land, forcing her to choose between her ambition and her humanity…

I'm betting a lot of people are waiting for this one, right?

You're spending a night in a haunted house. What book would you bring with you?

I'm a mood reader, so I'd bring my Kindle so I could read whatever I felt like at the time plus when the lights go out, I wouldn't be interrupted as it has a backlight.
I suppose the plummeting temperatures would negatively impact battery life but if it's fully-charged we should make it to the morning.
And since nothing has been said about what else I can take into the house I'd like to request that I get to take in my phone to act as a back up reading device (and to drown out the spooky sounds), a torch (with extra batteries), candles and matches in case anything powered by electric fails and, I suppose, a paperback to read by the candlelight... Although I've no idea which one I'd choose!

Oh! And I need a blanket and warm socks.
Maybe some earmuffs?
Holy water?
Snacks? Definitely snacks...
Why am I in a haunted house again?
I don't like being scared...

What about you? What would you bring?

  1. No way would I survive a zombie apocalypse. I’d be the first to go. LOL Then again, my husband served for 20 years in the military and is an expert marksman. So maybe if I stick by his side he can take out enough zombies for us to get away.

I am so excited for The Queen of Nothing!

    1. I wish you lots of luck in escaping! :)

I'll probably be sitting here in January going, "I really need to read this series!" but hopefully once Queen of Nothing releases the mood will strike and I'll binge read.

  3. The zombie apocalypse would definitely be a major pain! I sometimes feel like if one did the OPPOSITE of what they do on the shows, the chances of survival would probably increase lol!

    1. I'm too scared to watch the shows so I wouldn't have a clue what to do or what not to do! I may as well walk around with a sign shouting "Eat me!"

  4. I think the zombies would feast on me as well. I just have not trained properly for a zombie apocalypse

  5. Ha ha I loved this post! Hmm Zombie Apocalypse... I think I would have a fighting chance as I am pretty practical but not necessarily like the child scout kinda way.
I 100% agree with you about waiting for the series to be released so I can binge read and not have to wait for release dates... I am like that with books and tv series (my only exception was game of thrones S8)!
About that haunted house... I don't know if I would be able to read in a haunted house... I'd be too nervous and distracted by things that go bump in the night... great post!!

    1. I love to binge a series! I'm terrible at waiting.
Haunted houses oddly don't bother me so much... Every other place here is haunted (apparently) lol.

  6. I would at least recognise what a zombie is quicker than anyone around me! I'd be running while they were taking selfies so they'd distract the zombies long enough for me to get away! Then it would be get home, reinforce the place and quietly hide!

    1. I'd be clueless until it tried to eat me!

  7. I think I'd probably hide in an attic. However, I do think if you are a good medic, you could be very useful because what I've seen from zombie worlds is that a lot of people get sick even if they aren't bitten. And like Chuckles said, I think there would be enough people doing stupid stuff that I'd like to think I'd survive for a while.

I also want to read this book but I need to read book #2 first. Also, man, I've had it with snakes on covers.

  8. Not so sure I'd survive a zombie apocalypse. I am a good shot so there that, well, until I run out of bullets. So nope, probably wouldn't survive long. Lol.. The cover for the Queen of Nothing is gorgeous and it sounds really good!

  9. Yeah, if I was in a haunted house at night, I'd need my Kindle because it lights up. It's also easy to carry around and has lots of options!
