TMST: What are your favourite posts to read?

This week's question on Tell Me Something Tuesday is... What are your favourite posts to read?

My favourite types of posts are posts that let me get to know the person behind the blog; Sunday Posts, recaps, slices of life. Getting to know the blogger, liking the blogger, is what keeps me reading when a mutual love of books may not be enough.
I also enjoy discussion posts and lists.

I think my least favourite posts are book blitzes and cover reveals. I understand the need for them, and have found quite a few favourites from taking part in or seeing a blitz post  - and I love admiring book covers! - but when a blog posts too many of them I switch off. Especially when they don't personalise them in any way.
I like to see personality, you know?

What about you?

  1. Totally agree, Nicci. I've followed blogs in the past that seemed to be 90% promo posts. Cover reveals, releases, etc. It's like, that was their sole content. I couldn't tell you a thing about the blogger. I love getting snippets of who the blogger is behind the blog. Even though posts like Top Ten Tuesdays aren't necessarily personal, I love when bloggers make them personal by sharing the "why" behind their picks.

    1. I agree! I love knowing why people chose those books/authors/things to be added to their TTT lists.

  2. I love lists. I am a fool for wrap ups too, though the simple link to every book they read that month and all their posts is not as satisfying as mentions of highs and lows of the month/week. I love hauls too. Just in case some book didn't make it to my TBR (LOL)

    1. Yes! I forgot about book hauls! I do like eye-balling what others have added to the pile...
I agree that just read lists and post links are not satisfying wrap ups. They don't tell me anything about the person. :(

  3. Same. Anything that reveals their personality is a win for me.

I'm really glad that the days of 300 blogs doing a cover reveal on the same day are behind us lol

    1. Ah... Book blogging circa 2012-2014! I loved it. Oh wait... No I didn't. I burned out, lol. :)

  4. Interesting! I like Sunday Posts because they tend to have a bit of everything. I like learning about people’s lives and seeing what they’re reading. I scroll right past cover reveals and most book tour stuff. I follow a lot of blogs and don’t need to see the same thing a thousand times.

    1. It's frustrating when a blog is nothing but promo... Especially when some post half a dozen promo posts a day. :( I scroll right past it too.

  5. I agree with all of this! I love a good mix of posts, but more personal ones or discussion posts are always fun to see here and there.

  6. I totally get turned off when a blog is nothing but promo, it's hard to comment and gauge personality.

    1. Exactly, there's nothing to keep you coming by if it's all boiler-plate promo.

  7. I agree. That's why I like to do posts that aren't all about books or reviews.

  8. Agreed on all counts. I do love reviews too, of course, but I tend to read those of books in my favourite genres - unless I really, really love the blogger's style. I'm not much for lists though. Anyhow, the fact is - I love different things on different blogs!

  9. I agree! Cover reveals can be fun, but it gets boring if it's a hundred posts of the same thing. Posts with personality are the best. :-)

  10. I agree 100%! I periodically pick up a cover reveal or blitz but I actually try to restrict them to social media these days. For me that's not what I prefer to read, so I don't do it much. I love getting to know bloggers through their posts!
