Sunday Post - Hot and sticky with a side of reading...

This week has been a quietish one without work (I'm on medical leave) to juggle alongside the day-to-day activities.

Monday to Wednesday pretty much consisted of me going for a walk in the morning and reading the rest of the day until the little dude got home from school.
On Thursday and Friday, I mixed things up a little by meeting a friend for coffee in the morning, then walking, then reading... What an exciting life! 😆 In all seriousness, I need the routine, I need the calm and I need the time to adjust to the medication I'm on, so it's all good.
On Saturday, we ran errands in town, checked out flooring options (we're looking to replace the downstairs carpets probably with wood flooring), and had a BBQ in the evening.

The weather has been so freaking hot this week and it looks like next week will be the same and I'm not happy about it... I hate it when it gets too hot... Ugh, sticky and gross!
As I write this, it's not quite 10am, and it's already 26c/79f. 😞 If yesterday is any indication, it'll be above 30c by lunchtime and there is nowhere to hide! The only one in this house who can handle the heat is the professor who thrives on it.

The little dude breaks up from school this coming Thursday so I think I'm going to spend the day planning some summer activities. It's going to be nice having something to look forward to!

This week was a mixed reading week... 2 novels, one novella!
I really enjoyed Romancing the Duke but the other two mostly missed the mark for me.

Romancing The Duke by Tessa Dare
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Never His Mate by Sarah Spade
⭐⭐⭐
How To Catch A Wild Viscount by Tessa Dare
⭐⭐1/2

I blame Jen DeLuca and Well Met because I'm re-watching Once Upon A Time! I'm halfway through S2 and enjoying having it on in the background immensely!

Apart from that, all we've watched is the season finale of Loki.

  1. I am not a fan of hot weather, either, and this is absolutely the worst time to be moving, but when an apartment I wanted came up, I didn't have to think twice. I'll be moved in by Friday...hopefully, lol. Lots of packing and trashing stuff I don't need.

Enjoy your week, and here are my WEEKLY UPDATES

  2. It sounds like we had similar weeks. I'm dealing with a new puppy and a dog with new separation anxiety, so I've been hanging out, watching TV and reading for the last couple weeks. XD Congrats on not adding anything new to your TBR! Haha!

  3. Sorry to hear you're on medical leave and I hope you get used to your new medication soon. I also dislike it when it gets so warm, luckily we have had some milder weeks here and the temperatures aren't too high yet at the moment. I hope you'll have a great week!

  4. It's been so long since I watched Once Upon a Time (that show was great), but I just finished a book that reminds me of it in some way (Men are Frogs). Funny you brought it up. Hope you are adjusting to your meds and that all is well (or getting there). You know that song Cruel Summer exists just to describe the weather. It's been so humid here and in the high 90s. Glad I don't really go outside much. Stay cool!

  5. Coffee, walking, and reading sound perfect to me! It's great you'll get to have some fun with your little guy when he's out of school. Stay cool!

  6. This sounds like a great way to spend your leave time! It's been soo hot lately! Even days that are supposed to be 18c turn out to be 26 because of humidity. I'm so tired of air conditioning.

  7. I haven't watched Once Upon a Time in forever!! I can't even remember which season I stopped on. I love days with coffee, walking, and reading!

Wishing you a great reading week, stay cool!

  9. Loved Tessa Dare's Castles Ever After series! I hate it when it gets hot, but that's every summer in Southern California! We have really good air conditioning and solar so it doesn't cost us to run it so it's like a meat locker in our house during the summer. The bummer for me is I love running and hiking so it makes it really difficult to do that. I hate skipping because I feel depressed and end up gaining weight. Anyway, hope you stay cool and good luck with your steps!

  10. Yes this is the two months we stay inside mostly as it is too hot. Rainy days help and we are supposed to get a couple coming up. Later today it's supposed to be cloudy, so I might try to get in some lawn mowing if it doesn't start raining.

I'm glad you have the time you need. I enjoyed a quiet week myself.

  11. Sorry to hear you are on leave. Walks in the morning are the best, I take my dog for a nice long walk since it's not too bad but once the afternoon comes it's too hot to even think about outside!

I hope you have a great week, Nicci! Happy Reading! xx

  12. I love Once Upon A Time. I was so sad when it ended.

  13. I did love all but probably the last season or two of Once Upon a Time. I was a big fan of Hook. lol. I need to get out and walk every day. I need to realize I don't have to do a full 3 miles, that just even a mile a day would be good. Hope you have a good week!

  14. Quiet weeks can be good, especially when you have something going on or need to rest. And BBQ sounds nice!

Ooh that's warm though- I'm not a fan when it gts that hot. Our summer has been weirdly mild (we're usually super humid this time of year) but I'm kinda liking that!

  15. I had a quiet week too. I'm sorry about the medical leave. I hope you are doing well. It seems like everyone is dealing with the heat lately. I hope you have a great week.

  16. A quiet week is probably ideal since you are on medical leave. I hope you are doing well and staying cool. It's been hot here as well. I need to check out Romancing the Duke. Take care of yourself and have a great week!

  17. I'm glad you had a pretty nice, mellow week. Hope you're feeling okay - or will be soon!
Ugh, the heat really does drive me nuts. I'd rather be cold than hot.

  18. It's hot and sticky where I am too. I'll take the heat over snow and grey, but I'd love to live somewhere where it's in the low 70s during the day and the 50s at night lol. Happy reading!

  19. Despite the heat, sounds like you'll be getting in some summer fun. Enjoy and happy reading.

  20. I hope you're adjusting okay to the new meds - and hopefully they are doing what they're meant to do. I can relate on the heat. It's been so hot and humid here. But I shouldn't complain because it could be so much worse. It's been around 88 degrees and normally this time of year it's in the mid-90's. Ugh. Do you have AC at home? I sure hope so!

  21. Good luck with the adjusting to the meds. That is definitely no fun at first but hopefully you will soon. I need to work on getting a routine. I feel all over the place and I know it's because I'm missing any kind of structure. Our summers are typically in the high 90s/low 100s (but we all have central a/c so it takes the sting out) but this summer it's been so grey and cloudy and rainy. I'm actually missing the heat! Have a wonderful week!

  22. Oh, a nice quiet week! I love them. We all need time to re charge. The Bride Test by Helen Hoang is on my TBR, I can't wait to get to it!

  23. Sounds like a nice week; I'm glad you're able to take it easy while adjusting to your medicine. I love the heat but I'm sorry the weather is so uncomfortable for you. I hope it's been better this week!

  24. I pulled up carpet from four rooms and a hallway last year. Luckily, there were hardwood floors underneath, which I had to sand and stain.
