Review: My Bachelor by Tess Oliver

He was, for lack of a better word, an Adonis, a Greek god of manly perfection.
American hero. Self-made millionaire. All-around badass.
Sealed with a Kiss has never seen a bachelor like Rafe Rockclyffe before. The long haired, motorcycle riding heartthrob is exactly what viewers of the reality show have been waiting for. Twenty beautiful women will compete to win his heart and hand in marriage, a hand he doesn't really want to give.
It was all just a crazy bet . . . The last thing Rafe expected was to fall in love.

ebook.

Full length novel.

First person, alternating between the two main characters.

No.

Yes.

No.

What I Liked:
I liked that Eliot was a hard-working woman with a sensible head on her shoulders.
I liked the easy banter between Eliot and Rafe.
I adored the book cover.

What I Didn't Like:
Everything was too easy. This should have been angsty. I mean, you're falling in love with a guy who has twenty other women competing for his affections. There should have been tension, jealousy, fireworks... But there was nothing.
On top of that, Rafe was too good to be true and the secondary characters had the depth of a sheet of paper.

My Bachelor was an enjoyable enough read but it left me cold. I wasn't routing for Eliot. I didn't want to smack Rafe upside the head. I didn't want to scratch the eyes out of the love rivals. I felt nothing but mild amusement throughout the entire read.

Other Thoughts:
The book had a lot of potential but it just didn't live up to my expectations. It was too bland when it could have really been something. I'll definitely check out another one of the authors books in the future.

  1. I love non angsty reads but yeah - in this case there should have been some.

  2. This sounds like it could have been amazing if there was just more character development. I'm not a huge fan of a ton of angst but in this case there needs to be some of that going on.

  3. Hm... I can totally see why this should have been angsty. I'm not a fan of the Bachelor show and this sounds like it comes off of that. Too bad you didn't enjoy it more. Totally love the cover though. ;) :D

  4. The cover does nothing for me. I am sorry this didn't meet your expectations, but I totally appreciate your honest review, helped steer me from this one.
