Audiobook challenge 2019 Final Update!

Anybody who has followed this blog for a while knows that going into this year I was not much of an audiobook fan. However, I really really wanted to make them work for me so I decided to give this reading challenge a go and try listening to audiobooks in the car.

The good news?
I can totally listen to audiobooks in the car without getting distracted!
I can also listen to audiobooks while cleaning, ironing and cooking which is a huge win too!

The bad news?
I don't think I have any bad news... Except that I haven't reached a level of listening skill which would allow me to listen, follow and enjoy an audiobook while doing tasks that require a high level of brain power. That's the holy grail for me and I don't think I'll ever reach it but I'll take what I can get!

My target was pretty low...
I aimed for 5 audiobooks and I'm pleased to say I'd beaten that target before we even got to the mid-year point!
So I upped it to the 10 book target and guess what?
I beat that too!

Here, as we wind up 2019, I can say that I am currently on 11 audiobooks (for the year) and I'll probably get one more finished before 31st December rolls in.

How awesome is that?!

My audiobooks this year were:

  2. I'm glad to hear that you're an audiobook fan now. I tried a couple of times but I'd rather read the book.

    1. I love them in the car when I'm by myself. :) And ironing... They make that better.

  3. Yeah! Look at your embracing audiobooks. I listen to them all the time. Only certain types of stories work for me, when I am doing something that requires more attention (like at work), and accents are hard for me too, because I have to pay really close attention, but contemporary romances work perfectly for me.

    1. I struggle with contemporary romances, I think. (Probably need to explore more on that one.) But fantasy/UF work really well.

  4. I’m so glad you beat your goal! I will be joining in in 2020 too, but given that I’ve rarely ever listened to audiobooks in English and it’s my second language, I’ll aim for 5 books too. I have a lot of experience listening to audiobooks in Dutch but most aren’t well-narrated.

  5. Nice work on your goal; I am glad audio books are working for you. That's one area I have zero interest in exploring - there simply is not time for me to listen on the way to work and when Eleanor is in the car we are always listening to music.

    1. That's fair. I struggled to make them work for so long but I'm glad I have a place for them now... Even if it is a small one! :)
